Cherry Hill Now:
Free Tax Help Available For Seniors

February 19, 2019

Today is one of the days that the AARP has Tax-Aide volunteers available to help senior citizens in Cherry Hill Township prepare their taxes.

“Cherry Hill is once again partnering with AARP to offer Township seniors free tax-preparation services twice a week through April 12,” according to a statement issued by Cherry Hill Township.

The tax-preparation “services are available every Tuesday and Friday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM,” according to the statement.  “AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will be at Town Hall to assist residents ages 55 and older in preparing their 2018 state and federal tax returns, as well as Homestead Rebate and Property Tax Reimbursement forms.”

The statement from Cherry Hill Township indicated that “residents are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling 856-354-6842.  Please remember a valid photo ID.”

“AARP and their dedicated volunteers have helped thousands of Cherry Hill seniors prepare their annual tax returns for free for more than a decade,” the statement continued.  “Nationally, the AARP estimates that it has helped nearly 50 million low and middle-income Americans since the program’s inception in 1968.”

“All tax-help sessions will take place in the N. John Amato Council Chambers (Room 208) in the Cherry Hill Township Municipal Building,” according to the statement from the Township.  “Electronic filing and direct deposit services will be available to help expedite seniors’ returns.”

The Municipal Building is located at 820 Mercer Street in Cherry Hill.

“Residents should come prepared with a copy of their 2017 return, all relevant tax statements, receipts and forms;  their Social Security card or SSA-1099;  and their PTR form, if one was received in the mail,” explained Cherry Hill Township in its statement regarding this service program.

This voluntary service is not available for tax returns.

“Complex returns such as those involving businesses, rental income, and multiple capital gains will not be prepared through this service,” the statement from the Township noted.

If you need additional information, Cherry Hill Township encouraged its residents to “contact the AARP by calling 888-AARP-NOW or visit the website of AARP.”
